Sydney's best young creative people in 2010

Conspirators

Sometimes in Sydney you need to do a bit of work to find the truly excellent things. For a while there it felt like you had to know the secret handshake (always ends in a fist bump) or have a doubloon handy to hold against the skyline to work out the location of a venue that wasn’t going to be shut down by the time you reached it. Lately, however, the city is stirring.

In fact, so many events started popping into the fore each week that a directory of the best was needed online, and so began Concrete Playground. It soon came to our attention that, week-in, week-out, the most culturally interesting things happening aren’t being created by large institutions. More often than not, the events highlighted are put on independently or communally.

To celebrate and extend our appreciation we decided to select fifty creative conspirators to showcase in a book, Conspirators: A Snapshot of Sydney's Creative Community.

Nothing disappointing has ever come from a Sarah Blasko album. Her songs are sweet but never naive, and her propensity to write about personal battles with a voice as strong... Read More »
